The reason Matthew missed the bus...

Matthew's Mask and Nicholas's Drawing

Matthew had to design an African mask using different types of animals and African designs. The design was the assignment, actually making it was extra credit. While he spent part of Spring Break at my parents' house, he made a wooden mask with gazelle antlers, cat ears, goat goatee, pig nose, and snake skin and eyes. He carved out the under side so it's rounded. He did a great job!

Nicholas had a project that goes with their study of Romeo and Juliet. He chose to draw the Globe Theatre and write a report to go with it. He has quite a talent at drawing. His report was good, too!

Spring Break

Owen and I just got back fron San Juan Island where we stayed at a bed and breakfast for 3 nights. We explored the island, learned a little history, and saw some wildlife (and not so wild life at the alpaca farm).

Owen read somewhere that the island doesn't have possums, skunks, or coyotes, but we saw a fox while we were driving and it just seemed to stop and pose for my camera (it was really hunting a rabbit). We had a few beautiful days although it was a bit chilly with the wind. We found a few places to eat in Friday Harbor and our breakfast at the inn was pretty good!

My boys have Spring Break next week...hopefully next year all the surrounding districts will synchronize their breaks...sure makes it easier on family time. (Although it was nice to get away, just the two of us. ;)
